The Sunshine State is a golfer’s paradise. It is packed with golf facilities and has a fantastic climate all-year round. This is a great recipe for the perfect destination. While many travel to Florida for a trip to the theme parks and golf courses of Orlando, there is more to the state than the central region. Miami is a seaport city and sits on Florida’s southeast coast. It is known as the ‘cruise capital of the world’ due to its never-ending stream of cruise liners entering and leaving. The city is also heavily influenced by Cuban culture and has iconic architecture. The most famous facility in the Miami area is Trump National Doral. Home to four excellent golf courses, including the world-famous Blue Monster, Doral is one of the best golf resorts in Florida. The Red Tiger is a course for the tacticians and strategists, the accurate golfers out there. Like all courses at Doral it has a lot of water to navigate around. Gil Hanse, designer of the Olympic golf course for Rio, created The Golden Palm. This links-style course has unique bunkers and highly contoured greens to challenge golfers of any skill level. The Silver Fox is the second-hardest course on the property. With perfect white bunkers and water on 16 of the 18 holes, you need to be accurate! This is a test of golf, make no mistake, but it is a course to be enjoyed. The Blue Monster was overhauled in 2014 and saw every green rebuilt. Gil Hanse and Donald Trump worked together on this project to create this beautiful Floridian course. It is a bit of a brute at over 7,600-yards especially with its need for clever tactical golf. The 18th is one of the most famous finishing holes in all of golf. Miami Beach Golf Club is a fun course and in a great location. It is right in the middle of the Miami Beach area. This once underused property is now an elegant golf course that’s kept in great condition year-round. The Country Club of Miami has an incredibly interesting history. The facility opened in 1961 and was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. The clubs first professional was a guy called Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus played his first professional tournament here. There are two courses, The West and The East to choose from and both are excellent. With great natural terrain including natural salt water lakes and mangrove thickets, Crandon Golf at Key Biscayne is one of the most beautiful courses in Florida. The views over the bay are incredible! Biltmore Golf is a course that has always attracted dignitaries and celebrities. The Donald Ross design is a real treat and the variety of shots required to navigate the course makes it a fun round! Turnberry Isle is a wonderful destination for some golf. With two Robert Trent Jones Sr. golf courses to choose from, impeccable presentation and great terrain, both courses are a lot of fun. There are plenty of doglegs and large water hazards to navigate so you better bring your game with you. Other great courses to try in the area include: International Links Miami and Normandy Shores. There is also Naples and West Palm Beach nearby plus you also have PGA National and PGA Village within 90 minutes drive.
