Moscow, capital of Russia, located in the far western part of the country. Since it was first mentioned in the chronicles of 1147, Moscow has played a vital role in Russian history. Today Moscow is not only the political centre of Russia but also the country’s most populous city and its industrial, cultural, scientific, and educational capital.
Russian Golf started in Moscow, where the first golf club was founded in 1988 on Dovzhenko street. Firstly, it was just a driving-range and two years later, the 9-holes course was opened to play. The first 18-holes Championship course welcomed its guests at the Moscow Country Club in 1994, which was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr and hosted the first international golf tournament in 1996. A number of new courses were built after 2005, amongst them are 3 Nicklaus designed courses. Today, Moscow has 9 golf courses, some of them as close as just 25 minutes from the city center.
