Millbrook is a destination resort in Queensland in the south of New Zealand's South Island that dates from the early Nineties. Starting with a site beside a lake with the Remarkables mountain range in the background, Bob Charles laid out the two nines that form the Remarkables+Arrow composite course. The design team of Greg Turner, like Charles a pro turned architect and all-around promoter of the game, carried out renovations in 2010 that included the addition of another nine called the Coronet. The holes of all three nines blend nicely with the exquisite scenery, and the layout is sufficiently spacious for average players to knock the ball around without being too harshly penalized, but is at the same time sufficiently long and challenging to entertain low handicappers. The renovated course has earned praise and awards, and Millbrook is no a co-host for the BMW New Zealand Open.
