Desert Golf Course
Chiricahua was the fifth of the six courses Jack Nicklaus built at Desert Mountain, a sprawling upscale residential development in Scottsdale, AZ, but it is the star attraction. The topography scales and descends more than eight hundred feet from the 1st hole, at 2800 feet, as the spacious course makes its way through an arid landscape of the Sonora Desert dotted by the emerald islands of the tees, ample fairways and variously sized greens amid the cacti, sand and scrub. Many holes offer panoramic views of the Phoenix metro area. The green-to-tee distances can be large, but the layout is constructed so as to accommodate golf carts. Players are advised to be on the watch for scorpions, rattlesnakes and numerous other desert critters. Among the amenities at this luxury club are a Jim Flick Golf Performance Center and practice areas for driving, chipping and putting.
