Desert Golf Course
Colin Montgomerie has been a loyal participant in the Dubai Desert Classic: he won it in 1996 and has entered every year thereafter, often reaching the closing stages. So it makes sense that he was given a leading role when Dubai began building new golf courses. The Emirates Golf Club, part of a luxurious residential development, resembles other courses in the Middle East with its modern American style. Reflecting the dual usage of the space, palatial residences flank most of the holes, often on both sides. Particularly noteworthy are the thirteenth hole, which is set in a kind of amphitheater that allows an almost 180-degree approach for a range of tees varying in distance from 125 to well over 200 yards, and the world-class lodging and restaurant facilities that provide a welcome haven amid the ongoing construction.
