Lim Golf Design
Lim Golf Design has proved its ability to create strategic layouts with courses like Hwasan, which was constructed in the mid Nineties in the rugged country outside the nation's capital. As often with locations in the greater Seoul area, the confines of the terrain determine a routing that proceeds uphill in stages from the clubhouse and then back home again in the same manner. Some of the best holes here are nestled on bluffs and form intriguing doglegs. There are some tough par 4s, but the signature hole is the par 3 11th, the two hundred-plus yards of which lead to a green encircled by dips and rises. Pin placement and sculpting can make for some challenging greens. Hwasan measures up well against other Korean designs from the end of the twentieth century. Service and upkeep are superb, though the only warm-up areas are putting greens.
