Gary Player designed the Ocean Course for the Ria Bintan Golf Club, located on Bintan Island an hour ferry ride outside of Singapore, on a site bordered by rainforest on one side and beach on the other. The 6470-meter, par 72 layout is defined by the water that is in play on fifteen of the holes, and by varied topography. The stretch from the 7th to 10th holes offers the greatest test. The par 3 9th is the signature hole here and one of the toughest in this part of the world: a picturesque seascape frames a carry over water to a slender green surrounded by the ocean and further defended by forest, boulders and bunkering; those who make par consider themselves fortunate. The par 4 10th, which has the feel of a links in Scotland, isn't much less challenging. From the clubhouse to the staff to the maintenance, Ria Bintan offers great golf.
