The course opened in 1984 to rave reviews. The links-style design has rolling terrain with water coming into play on 11 holes, and four holes along and across the Eagle River. The course is a Jack Nicklaus design and offers stunning views of the Colorado mountains. The course is set 7,200 feet above the sea level and is more than 7,400 yards length, which not that exorbitant. Instead of focusing on distance, Jack Nicklaus concentrated on greens to protect par. Featured holes include the 2nd and the 7th but the signature is probably the 12th, where the approach must cross the Eagle River. Former United States president Gerald Ford was a member of the club, hosting a charity event at the Country Club of the Rockies for over twenty years.
