Jose Maria Olazabal
The Olabazal is a standout for its length and extreme bunkering, and it attracted the world's notice in 2007 when it was awarded its first World Cup competition for the opening three editions; those who saw the match will long remember Italy's Molinari brothers on the final day beating back Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy from Ireland. Of Mission Hills' dozen courses, the Olabazal is perhaps the most striking, on account of its alpine setting, nicely contoured fairways and of course the impressive bunkering. Designed by the team of Schmidt & Curley, who laid out the bulk of Mission Hills' courses, the course has earned a special place in the hearts of club members. Among the many excellent holes, the par 5 15th is considered the signature; it winds through typically dense bunkers around an enormous lake, and deserves ranking among the best long holes anywhere on the continent.
