Mauna Kea Golf Course

(1 review)

Hawaii, The United States

course description

Nearly all of the clubs and courses that are now to be found throughout the Hawaiian Islands have been built since the 1950s, and most were built some time after that. One of the earlier courses from this period is Robert Trent Jones's for Mauna Kea, which opened for play in the mid-1960s. Jones was known as an architect who could put a great course almost anywhere, and those skills came in handy in confronting the rugged volcanic landscape. A fine example of the deft touches he brought to the project is the green for the 3rd, a seaside treasure that is one of the more photographed images in the world of golf. Jones's sons Robert Trent and Rees have both helped the club to keep up with advances in technology and in how the game is played, and they have been most successful in preserving their father's legacy.
