Chi Linh Star, which is part of a destination resort and residential community, occupies a lovely site in wooded hill country some distance outside of Hanoi. The beauty of the course is matched by the magnitude of the challenge it presents; this is not golf for the faint of heart. Natural brooks and ponds are part of the strategy of the course on nearly every hole, but that's only part of the story; the fairways are narrow, the bunkering is punitive and the greens are quick and contoured. The 18th measures a whopping 660 yards, and plays from a raised tee down a fairway lined on one side by water. Championship golf came to the club in 2004 when the Carlsberg Masters Vietnam was played here, the first event of its kind outside of the former South Vietnam, in which Angelo Que of the Philippines took first place and former US Open champion, Corey Pavin, third place.
