What was once Pine Hill Golf Club is now Trump National Philadelphia. The facilities and site are superb: the enormous and stylish clubhouse looks out from the south New Jersey highlands onto the skyscrapers and monuments of the City of Brotherly Love and the less developed area beyond. The course itself is most attractive, being a creation of Tom Fazio, and it makes the most of the occasionally abrupt changes in elevation (hence the slope rating of 145/74.5). At something under 6400 meters, the par 70 layout can seem long, though there is an accommodating range of tee positions available. Challenges include the thick fescue that borders the holes, ample bunkering and enough numbers and varieties for the course to have styled itself the Public Pine Valley (in reference to the nearby private golfing institution). The views are nowhere better than on the 10th, a par 4 that plays downhill to a thin, angled green.
