Architect Gil Hanse and top player—and phenomenal putter—Brad Faxon combined forces in 2007 to renovate TPC Boston, and they brought the facilities up to the high standard set by the PGA Tour for its FedEx Cup competitions. The results received high praise from Golf Digest's Ron Whitten: "TPC Boston looked great on television this year: shaggy, gnarly and old-looking. In person, it was even better: beautiful to behold, delightful to play. This was a refinement and enhancement of a course whose basic structure was sound, not a total renovation or wholesale replacement." The greens benefited especially from the work, which is no wonder given Faxon's proclivities. The standout hole here is the 16th, which features a green with a double tier and a water hazard on the approach and a rock retaining wall in the background. Since this is a championship layout, players are advised to choose their tee positions wisely.
