Arnold Palmer created this semi-private course in 1988 for the Bluffs Country Club and Resort in St. Francisville, just a half hour outside Baton Rouge, and it is probably one of his very finest. The design takes full advantage of the lovely landscape through which it unfolds. The high regard in which the club is held among Louisiana golfers is shown by its being chosen to host multiple Louisiana State Championships. Luxury is a watchword for at Bluffs, as is evident in the courteous and attentive staff, in the quality and diversity of amenities available at the superb clubhouse, and in the impeccable maintenance. The course is straightforward but demanding: the fairways are wide, while the bunkering is extensive and the greens can be temperamental. Those players who have the opportunity will want to come back again and again in order to unwind the course's intriguing strategies.
