Jack Nicklaus created the course at Sycamore Hills in northeastern Indiana right outside Fort Wayne, and going on three decades later it continues to challenge players of all levels; the 35th Junior PGA was held here. The tougher holes are grouped in bunches of three or four, so the layout only lets up occasionally: four of the uniformly trying par 3s are in the 200-plus yard range; there is a trio of par 4s that meet or exceed 455 yards; and the par 5s range in the mid-500s. The Aboite River makes for some particularly effective natural water hazards as it meanders through the grounds, particularly at the transition between the front and back nines. The narrow fairways are in many places tree-lined, but those who are accurate with their long and mid irons will avoid having to navigate tricky approaches to greens that are not at all deep.
