David Feherty, David Jones
Now in its third decade, the National Golf Club was the first real golf facility on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, and it remains among the finest. Set among thick woods, the Championship Course is nevertheless reasonably long at around 6232 meters, so expect to be doing at least some driving. Newcomers are advised to take full advantage of the range of tee positions, for in addition to length and trees, the course is bounded by a quite dense rough. Unlike the common wide-open contemporary layouts, the National has the feel of a country road. Irish golfing personality David Feherty created the design for the European Tour, and put his years of involvement with the game to good use. Apart from some rather dull bunkers, the Championship eighteen are enjoyable and even unforgettable. The PGA European Turkish Seniors Open was played on the course in 1996 and 1997.
