Constructed on a site that formerly housed a tin mine and a rubber plantation, the Canyon Course at Blue Canyon Golf Club in Phuket is characterized by contoured fairways that are hard to read, forced carries over ravines, and greens that are speedy and well defended. The setting offers views of the surrounding Phang Nga Mountains and the Andaman Sea. Blue Canyon has earned a name for itself by hosting top international competitions. Thus there have been three Johnnie Walker Classics here—won by Greg Norman over Fred Couples in 1994, by Tiger Woods over Ernie Els in 1998, and by Anton Haig of South Africa in 2007. The 17th is the lengthiest par 3 in the country (or even the world, according to Couples). The Canyon Course was completed in 1991, and a sister course, the Lakes, opened eight years later. Both offer first-class facilities and amenities.
