If any sport distinguishes La Manga Club as one of the best sports resorts in the world, it is golf.
The resort is home to three 18-hole golf courses, each with its own particular style: the North Course, designed by world-renowned golf course architect Robert Dean Putman; the South Course, also designed by Putman and later updated by Arnold Palmer; and the Dave Thomas designed West Course; as well as an 18-hole pitch & putt course designed by Severiano Ballesteros.
The magnificent golf facilities also include a Golf Practice Centre, which is amongst the best in Europe and the Leadbetter Golf Academy, where golfers can learn using the legendary David Leadbetter's unique methods.
I was there in the beginning of November. What a place! Great hotel, good breakfast and a lot of fun in the bars in the evening. Never used the restaurang on site, we went to the village half a mile away instead. The have a great practice facility, a pitch & putt(didn't play it), and 3 courses. The South course is the flagship! Parkland course with a few houses around the holes on some holes, one of them was Seve Ballesteros... That is a proper championship course. At 6500m from the backtee it's a challenge but par 73 so still not too long. On most of the holes it is wide open from the tee but you still need to think a bit before going with the big gun. The course is mostly flat but some holes are slightly uphill or downhill all the way, great bunkers and good fast greens though very soft, pitchmarks were huge! This is the problem... since it's a resort there are a lot of lazy golfers who do not do what they should do... you understand. Then we also played the North course, a shorter course but hilly(not silly hilly). Not a championship course but a really fun course to play! Shouldn't be missed if you come here. At 5800m from the backtee with a par of 71it is still very much a challenge. Tighter tee shots on some holes, short but tricky par 3's(which I love!), every thing in the same standard as on the South course except the greens... Just as soft but with way to many pitchmarks that hadn't been repaired or done so badly... I guess this comes with resort golf unfortunately. The shorter course more people will play since it's easier and with greens that soft even chip shots made dents. So overall South course super, North course definitely worth playing, West course I didn't play because I was recommended not too(will try it one day though), The Seve designed Pith & Putt I'll play next time I'm there. Great weekend place, recommended!
