Since living in Madrid, Retamares is a course I always wanted to play and I finally had the opportunity this week!
The course has an overall feeling of modern course: the clubhouse looks fresh, the course map is clear and neat, driving range has plenty of visual aids, putting and pitching area are generous … I think you get my point ;-) It has been hosting quite a few PRO tournaments, including the Madrid Ladies Masters back in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Hole number 1 is actually SI 1, so this kind of set the scene for the rest of the course! You’ll find water hazards on most holes and quite a few blind shots, which I’ve always considered a great test, especially when you course for the first time! Hole 6 is a 260m par 4, where you only see the first half of the fairway. Trust your long iron and you’re in with a chance of reaching the green if the bounce goes your way … or OB if not!
Another hole I really liked is the 14th: after an athletic walk up the hill you’re gifted one of the best views of Madrid, with water hazard left, right and back of the green. Enjoy the ride! Tee shot at 15 is the best from the course, big hitters can reach the green in favorable conditions!
Overall very good course, no more than 30 min from the city! Will come back!
