Dave Thomas laid out this course at Roxburghe Castle, part of the Roxburghe Estates development, in 1996. Thomas made the most of some two hundred acres of parkland in the Scottish Borders region along Teviot Water with a design that follows the native terrain and looks like it has been there forever. Unlike most Scottish courses with their heathland soil, this one has the stiffness of courses in the US where players can really move the ball. The imposing bunkering and generous, contoured greens are typical of Thomas's work. Sam Torrance and Colin Montgomerie were on hand for the opening day, the latter declaring, "I am most impressed with the design and quality of the Roxburghe; it is a pleasure to play whether you be professional or amateur." The clubhouse features a bar, lounge and pro shop, and play is open to anyone with a handicap certificate.
