Though he is relatively unheralded outside the German-speaking countries, Hans Erhardt has earned a name for himself for the course at Austria's Fontana, and his work at Rosa Golf Club in Poland, which is now considered the country's finest, is helping to cement his reputation. It took great vision and expertise to transform the level, unpromising terrain, and Erhardt carried out large-scale excavation to shape the layout and to introduce contours. Water figures prominently here, and in a truly strategic way, from large ponds to a number of creeks that reward careful course management by players of all skill levels. The clever routing makes the most of the spacious location, so the holes are separated from each other by extensive patches of dense, brushy rough. Good players will have no trouble with the 6207-meter length off the tips, and the broad greens offer reachable targets.
