Wolf Creek, on the northern edge of Mesquite, Nevada, is unlike any other course in the world. The setting is surrounded by barren rock that has been formed by the wind into fascinating shapes. The landscape has determined where the holes were put and how they were oriented, so there can be considerable space between them. To reach the elevated tees you ascend wooden stairs that seem to go on forever and that make possible incredible shots down onto the fairways. They aren't kidding around here about the dangers of the snakes, spiders and scorpions (and the dangerously delicious Spider Shake, a favorite club refreshment), so be prepared to let the more errant shots into the rough go. According to the USGA, only two layouts in America are more difficult than Wolf Creek, so leave the card and pencil at home and let the thrillride carry you away.
