Open Country, Seaside
The two courses at Four Seasons Golf Club Mauritius at Anahita were built by Ernie Els, who was fully aware of the fact that the vast majority of players would be vacationers looking for fun rather than trying to shave points off of the their handicaps. The location Els was given to work with is absolutely stunning, set among towering peaks and the Indian Ocean, and has the benefit of abundant changes in elevation. Each of the eighteen holes of the club's namesake course is unique in its form and orientation to the wind; on a few, a creek is in play that, while by no means imposing, can lure good golfers into making costly mistakes. The near-perfect views are marred only by the remains of a decaying sugar processing plant, but the final hole cements the overall image of the sand, the surf and the sun.
