Although sometimes overshadowed by the nearby Portmarnock, the course at the Royal Dublin Golf Club enjoys a similar landscape. The scene is set for a great experience right from the entryway, which is reached by a bridge made of wood. Native star Christy O'Connor Sr. made the Royal Dublin his home course, and has naturally attracted students of the game wanting to see the legend in action even at his advanced age. Martin Hawtree was brought in awhile back to refurbish and add length to the course so that it is has reclaimed its place among the top links in Ireland. The course features ample fairways with bunkering along the greens, as well as abundant vegetation that tends to more ornamental than challenging. There is not a lot of relief to the ground, but the test is strengthened by some blind shots off the tee and a back nine that plays upwind.
