Spanish star Seve Ballesteros combined forces with Canadian designer Jeff Howes, who had earlier worked with Jack Nicklaus at Mount Juliet, to create the course for Heritage Golf and Spa Resort at Killenard. The reputation of the course was established when the semi-annual Seve Trophy competition between the Continent and the UK was held there in 2007. The setting, a fine piece of ground about fifty miles from Dublin to the southwest, is dominated by a splendid 3-storey clubhouse, which features a friendly and skilled staff. Measuring nearly 6700 meters from the back tees, the Heritage is quite long, and while probably more enjoyable for good players, average golfers will find their place among the more forward tee positions. Wind frequently factors in the play here, despite the fact that the course is not on the coast. The finishing hole, bordered throughout by water on one side, is the standout.
