The so-called Dubsdread course at the sprawling Cog Hill Golf & Country Club, some thirty miles outside of Chicago to the southwest, is a championship layout that puts even the pros to the test. Tiger Woods won numerous events here, including the 2011 BMW Championship by eight, earning him an incredible 62. Mere mortals can expect fairly bruising play, and most will be happy to score thirty strokes above Woods. The bunkering is especially formidable, having been beefed up around the turn of the latest century by Rees Jones. The greens, which use the SubAir system to facilitate drainage, are solid and swift, and allow for a variety of intriguing pin positions. The holes come in all shapes and sizes, and feature more varied topography than the level Illinois land usually affords. Practice facilities include a top-notch driving range, and amenities include the club's signature "Dubsburger" in the dining room.
