The 27 holes at Discover Bay, a resort community located on picturesque Lantau island a short ferry trip from Hong Kong, offer conditions that are unsurpassed in the south of China. The three nines are called the Jade, Diamond and Ruby; the tournament course is a combination of the latter two. The course opportunities here are of a moderate length, so the challenge comes in the form of small valleys and artificial water hazards, so that players must carefully determine the fair line for most of the holes; it can be tough to keep the ball within the fairway. The ample Bermuda grass greens are well maintained, and offer abundant slopes and some real speed, especially when the weather cools down. Of particular note here on the tournament course is the par 5 final hole, one of Asia's finest, which is bordered by a steep drop-off on the right.
