The little town of Le Touquet seems straight out of Grimm's Fairy Tales, and the golf course there fits right in. True, some modern apartment buildings have gone up in recent years, but the town has generally maintained its historic charm. The Golf Du Touquet club features two courses, of which the Mer is a triumph of dunes fringed with heather. The Mer has been through a lot: having peaked in popularity in the Interwar years, bombs then claimed the clubhouse and four holes, and in ensuing decades the course was neglected and poorly maintained. Recent management has done much to restore the Mer to its original glory; with the lost holes having been replaced, players may once again partake of some vintage golf in a wonderful setting. And while not all of the maintenance issues have been resolved, there has been a noted improvement over the past few years.
