Golf de Bondues is the best course around Lille. I don’t say that because it is my new club but it has two complementary 18-hole courses, one designed by Trent Jones and the other by Hawtree, there is always place for a round. Some work is being done on the Trent, which means the Hawtree is the best course at the moment but I can't wait to see the Trent at it's best. The Grand Prix 2015 was on the Hawtree for instance that was extremely well prepared – high roughs, fast greens and a few tricky flags.
Indeed Bondues is very sporty and posses many teams mostly in first French divisions which obviously delights me but above all stimulates my training.
I was very impressed by Golf de Bondues as well as by the city of Lille - very charming. Lille is only 1 hour away from London and Paris by TGV. I played both 18-hole courses. Let me start with the "Hawtree" which offers a nice variety of shots and 5 par 5s that measure less than 480m. If you strike it well you can certainly go for the greens in two. The greens are pretty flat but quick. My personal favorite hole is 17, a slight dogleg to the right which will test your ability to shape the ball. A great and fun course to play. As for the second course designed by "Robert Trent Jones Snr & Jr" expect more water hazards and slopy greens. Again you'll have to shape the ball nicely and driver is not an option on every hole which is the case on the "Hawtree" course. Hole 18 is a tough finishing hole with a spectacular view on the Château des Vignes which serves as the club house by the way. Staff is very friendly and the food is great!
