Jack Nicklaus designed this course for The Bear's Club, a luxury golf and real estate complex established by himself and his wife that is located near his base of operations up the coast from Palm Beach around the turn of the millennium. The dominant feature of the setting is majestic evergreens, which feature in the layout. When breaking ground, Nicklaus is reported to have described this as the kind of land he had long been seeking for a top-notch facility near his home, in like manner as Muirfield Village was his homage to his boyhood home back in Ohio. The tall trees were a particular attraction for a man who has claimed half a dozen victories in the Masters among the pines at Augusta. The routing extends over ground near the ocean amid thick brush and through wetlands, while the surrounding area is giving way to housing.
