Comprised of nine par 3’s, 7 par 4’s, and with a par 5 on each nine, the course offers a little something for everyone. A natural match for golfers without long bomber distance, Mainlands does tease longer hitters with the possibility of driving the green on several par 4’s. Both par 5’s, with a well placed drive, also offer the potential for eagles.
The MGC boasts a fully stocked pro shop, selling shoes, bags, gloves, apparel, and balls of all types, styles and prices. The modest snack bar offers food and beers to accompany your round.
In April of 2015 William Blair passed away leaving the legacy of The MGC in the hands of his children and grandchildren. It is important to convey that his passing was a gracious event, one that engendered the ideals he lived his life by… honesty, integrity, overcoming struggles both mental and physical, leaving something better than one found it. And of course, humor. These are the same ideals that make the game of golf so great. Golf mirrors life in so many ways. That is why we golfers never give up our love of the game.
The fountain adjacent to the putting green honors William A Blair (1921-2015) in the man’s own famously funny words… “A gentleman and a scholar, an excellent judge of fast women, and slow horses. Not necessarily in that order.”
In the heart of Pinellas County, the MGC is a 20-minute drive from almost anywhere. Enjoy the scenery, the weather, and the company of your golf buddies. Because if you are not laughing, you aren’t doing it right, whether that be golf or life. Hopefully that will be the enduring legacy of William Blair.
