This course was the work of European Golf Design, an arm of the European Tour, which suggests the expectations that the developers have of attracting championship play. Since its 2005 opening, however, Linna has only hosted one Challenge Tour venue, though the emergence of major Finnish pros, in particular 2000 British Amateur Champ Mikko Ilonen, offers the hope that more big tournaments may be on the way. Measuring over 6600 meters, Linna certainly has the necessary length to take on the top golfers, though some fine-tuning may be needed to increase the challenge, such as slimming down the driving areas and adding more bunkering to the fairways. It can also be said that the shorter holes tend to become somewhat monotonous. On the positive side, the rolling and amply wooded setting is quite pleasant, and most of the greens are raised and nicely bunkered and feature reasonably large targets.
