Queenwood represents the fulfillment of a not uncommon aspiration among developers to create a highly exclusive, no-expenses-spared club that will attract well-to-do players willing to shell out a good deal of money in order to join the membership. Situated in the historic environs of Wentworth and Sunningdale, the developers were fortunate to have found such favorable ground for their club, where stately mature evergreens help to create the backdrop. The sprawling clubhouse provides almost royal treatment for members and guests: personal caddies, champagne on ice in the practice area and stacks of virgin Titleist balls (as tournament players have come to expect). While the overall size and feel of Queenwood is contemporary, classic touches such as bunkers faced with heather add a measure of charm. Local residents and members include Adam Scott and Ernie Els, so the average player will have to show some ingenuity to wangle an invitation.
