The 18-hole Lee Westwood filly Course is situated in the grounds of the Close House Estate, providing stunning views of the River Tyne Valley. The Parkland Layout was re-designed and re-opened in 2007. It now has 18 USGA specification greens, is 6000 yards in length and a par 70 from the medal tees. The tricky greens provide a real test for your putting skills, but accuracy off the tee is paramount for good scoring. Having already held PGA professional events the course has proved challenging to golfers of all abilities.
Opened by Lee Westwood in May 2011, the design of The Lee Weswood Colt tips its hat to the great English golf architect Harry Colt. While nothing is copied directly, the rectangular tees, the bunker forms, and the variety in Par threes are all features conceived from the distilled themes of this most brilliant architect.

I spent 5 days here in mid September. It's Lee Westwoods only design. 3 courses, The Yearling course - a 9 hole pitch & putt course with tiny greens but with proper green areas. Fun to play! Then the Filly course which is the shorter parkland course but still in very good condition, worth a round if you stay here. The one that makes it all worth coming for is the Colt course. A very hilly course(buggy recommended!) but in Championship condition. All you could ever want for a course. Add a great range/practise area(but it is up the hill some 500m away from the first tee..) an even better restaurant and 17 lovely rooms in their hotel part. The service there is great and it is never crowded(well there are only 17 rooms;). If in Newcastle it is worth a visit!
