Regional political instability has impeded the growth of the Red Sea coast of Egypt as a tourist destination, but there are nevertheless some top notch resorts in the area that stand ready to take advantage of periods of calm. Perhaps the best of these establishments is Taba Heights, located at a spot where the weather tends to be relatively agreeable for visitors from Europe or the US. The resort is an attraction for swimming and other water sports as well as golf, for which the site, bounded by the ocean on one side and peaks on the other, is especially well suited. Built around the turn of the millennium, the course offers unabashed resort golf. Thus the fairways are spacious; the rough is unintimidating; bunkering serves to define rather than to complicate the play; and the large ponds serve more to nourish the grass than to snare errant shots.
