Marriott hotels are not always the most luxurious, but the Mirage City in Cairo is one of the best. Thus the building itself does not intrude on the landscape, and is well integrated with the golf course that is one of its major attractions. Particularly impressive here is the clubhouse, which is done up in the style of a miniature French castle; indeed, the only drawbacks to the site are some residences and some obtrusive pylons. The layout is of championship length, and it includes some real challenges, mainly in the form of strategically positioned bunkers and the water that is in play on all but five of the holes. Those so bold as to try to make the green in two rather than three shots may very well achieve splashdown. Ample care is taken, in any case, to ensure that average players and experienced pros alike will enjoy the course.
