This sprawling oceanside resort, built in 1940, is situated in the heart of the community of Santo Domingo just west of Santiago. The enormous but refined Normandy-style clubhouse features a friendly and attentive staff, including personal service in the locker rooms that rewards generous tippers, as well as a fine restaurant that specializes in seafood from the area and native dishes. Evergreens planted when the club was founded have grown into a towering, natural line of defense against the persistent breezes, while Old World deciduous trees provide seasonal color. The course's twenty-seven holes are exquisitely maintained, and also very demanding from the tips. There are to be sure some fairly uncomplicated par 5s, but also some punishing par 4s that will demand straight-on drives. So if you come to the Rocas, be prepared for some fun golf, but also don't be surprised if you are unable to make your handicap.
