Another of the courses in and around the resort area of Muskoka some ways outside of Toronto, the Oviinbyrd is the brainchild of technology tycoon Peter Schwartz, whose aim was to build a private club that welcomes members, of which there are fewer than two hundred, with a cozy clubhouse and superb meals. Schwartz enlisted Thomas McBroom to help him realize his vision, and the designer utilized the native stone right from the first hole. Par 4s help to make this course, beginning with the 3rd, which features an unlevel green, on through the 15th, where the opening shot needs to clear 600 feet of water in order to land on the fairway. The par 3 14th also deserves mention; it extends from a hillside tee-off to a green positioned amid a wetland and is real delight. Well balanced in terms of difficulty, the Oviinbyrd delivers truly enjoyable golf.
