V Golf Design
The resort town of Siem Reap is the first place in Cambodia to boast one of the numerous luxury golf complexes that are now being built across Asia. Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort's first course, laid out by the Weeyos Design firm, debuted in 2007, and like many in the region is set on lowlands that require much digging and mounding to sculpt the terrain. Water hazards often figure in the more difficult holes. With a length of 6533 meters, the layout is tournament-ready—the Cambodian Open has been held twice here already—though a range of teeing options accommodates golfers of all skill levels, as one would expect for resort golf. Amenities include superb practice grounds and a plush clubhouse. Wandering golfers who find themselves in Southeast Asia are sure to find enjoyment at this first-class haven for the game, which is only fifteen minutes from the Siem Reap airport.
