Sandy Lane received a new lease of life with the complete renovation of its luxurious boutique hotel and the addition of one of the Caribbean's most magnificent courses. The Green Monkey - named for one of the island's unique animals - is the work of Tom Fazio, who was told to create his most imaginative design without regard to cost. Some of the island's pink coral was excavated to provide landfill for future villa development bordering the course, and Fazio used it to construct 20-30 foot high coral cliffs and laid out his exquisite course through the valleys between them. In the tropical climate, vegetation has soon made these cliffs look like a golfing Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Abundant wild flowers create an unmatched Garden of Eden effect. Only hotel guests can play the Green Monkey, and rooms aren't cheap, but the golf is worth it.
