This club is located in the center of Melbourne's celebrated Sandbelt, where choices abound to play one or another outstanding course, all of which are within a few miles of each other. The historic Victoria offers exceptional hospitality in its spacious, classic, clubhouse, where one can also find top-notch lodging. The Victoria has hosted the Australian Open a number of times, even though it is one of the easier of the Sandbelt courses. The extent of the renowned Alister MacKenzie's involvement in the design during his 1926 visit remains a subject of discussion, but the proximity of the Royal Melbourne is suggestive, and the master is quoted as saying that, "little more is required to make this a magnificent golf course." The strategically well-placed and challenging bunkers at least show MacKenzie's influence. This is beautiful course has matured nicely, and the greens are impeccable all the way through the dry months.
