The Par 71 South Course is one of South Australia’s golfing gems. Positioned only minutes from the CBD, the course is home to the annual Lord Mayor’s Golf Trophy and has also hosted several PGA pro-am events. A Park Lands style course, the South Course measures in at 5,884 metres. Kikuyu fairways and Santa Ana couch tees provide a high quality playing surface all year round. The Bent grass greens are maintained to a high standard and provides the player with the best chance possible of posting a good score.
With a Golf Australia Slope Rating of 122, the South Course provides a challenge to the beginner and accomplished golfer alike. From the ladies tees, the course measures a lengthy 5,404 metres, Par 73 with a Golf Australia Scratch Rating of 124. Tall, mature trees line most fairways, punishing a wayward drive whilst smallish, modestly bunkered greens provide a challenge for the approach shots. The course features a good variety of holes with everything from short Par 3s to genuine 3 shot Par 5s. With no water hazards and minimal rough off the fairways, the South Course is relatively easy to negotiate which aids in good pace of play and minimal lost balls.
In recent years, the South Course has hosted several state junior qualifying events, including the Aaron Baddely Junior State Event and the Jack Newton Junior Invitational. Whilst the South Course primarily has a rolling start off the 1st tee 7 days a week, 9 hole rounds beginning on the 10th hole are also available early morning all week. The Early Birdie rate is available from first light for a period of 1 ½ hours and is for 9 hole rounds only.
