Today I visited Rinkven GC outside of Antwerp.
+25 this morning with a temperature steady rising it was nice to drive the last kilometers to the club. The road is completely in the shade of all the big trees growing there.
This also told us what was coming...
The first thing you see is the new massive cool clubhouse only a year old, very impressive!
A lot of things looks brand new actually, clubhouse, driving range etc and even the course looks new even though it's from 1981.
Designed by Paul Rolin and later updated by Hawtree. The end result is really really good!
The practise facilities must be good since we saw 2 of the better belgian golfpro's practise there. We did warm up before and enjoyed the area.
So Rinkven just hosted a European Tour Event a while ago. They played a combination of the 2 courses. On tv some of those holes looked really narrow...
Now I know that they als are that narrow!
The South course, I was told, is for greenfee players and for club competitions and the North course is for members only.
Both courses have trees all around everywhere... which can and will be a tough test if you have a bad day from the tee.
South course is 5927m par 71from the white tee's. It's a little bit short than the North courses 6124m par 72 but I didn't feel much difference. They are both a really good test for any golfer.
Flat narrow forest courses which requier all your attention when playing. No time at all to be sloppy or the figures on the card will be the unwanted ones... trust me I learned the hard way...
After we played the South course, where I ¨learned¨, we had a lovely lunch with amazing service!
I learned well because the North course went 11 shots better and then we enjoyed the service again in the clubhouse. If I'd lived closer to Rinkven I'd be considering a membership!
Before teeing up the club apologized about the condition of the course which they definitely didn't have too. The last few months weather over Europe has made it difficult for all golfcourses and I've played many that are more or less only watering the greens. Rinkven looked dry but also green more or less all over. The greens were kept a bit longer to protect them from the conditions but they still rolled nicely.
I can really recommend Rinkven GC, the golf, the food, service etc... all topclass!
