Tom Fazio, Andy Banfield
Englishman John Sunley created the course at Lake Nona, Florida, in the Eighties, and it has gone through some ups and downs. Located on a surprisingly tranquil site given that it is less than half an hour from Orlando's main airport, the course was originally part of a sprawling real estate development that failed to get off the ground financially. A few years later the club received a shot in the arm when David Leadbetter debuted the first US franchise of his golfing academy there, and around the same time it was selected to host the Solheim Cup. Tom Fazio's attractive layout culminates on the shores of the lake for which the club is named. This part of the Sunshine State is fairly level, but the course works some subtle variations into the topography as it makes its way through evergreen woodlands and amid large ponds.
