course description

Famed English designer Harry S. Colt is responsible for but two courses in Canada, and his work here takes maximum advantage of an excellent natural site with intriguing topography and stately trees. The Hamilton has been a standout for a century, and continues to attract the Canadian Open. For all its ups and downs, the course is suited to walking, and it offers some challenges over its modest 7000 yards from the back tees. These include the 485-yard 11th, which follows a leftward dogleg up to an elevated and windswept green, and the 18th, where Bob Tway claimed his victory in the 2003 Open. A further nine holes were added in the Sixties, though this stretch isn't up to the standard set by Colt, and further renovations are needed to restore his bunkers. Nevertheless, the Hamilton maintains its reputation as one of Canada's, and indeed the world's, best courses.
