The Counts von Schönborn, one of the great families of Germany and Austria, predate the Middle Ages. Even today, with their splendid palaces in both countries, their social and commercial activities still command enormous respect. Maximizing the beauty of their properties, and it is to golf's benefit that they have laid out a course on the grounds of this great estate 30 miles north of Vienna. Without the magnificent setting, this would not be an outstanding course, but the way it wanders in and out of the palace grounds with their many buildings as a backdrop make this a special place to visit. The 11th, while no great shakes as a hole, must be unique, is played up under the windows of the palace itself. The course is best described as a parkland layout, but it possesses several good holes and makes excellent use of mature woodland.
