Cypress Point is, along with Augusta, Pine Valley and Seminole, one of the four great private American clubs. These clubs were founded in the 1920s and 1930s, and it is said that no one may belong to all four. Cypress Point is a bastion of exclusivity on the West Coast. The renowned British golf course architect Alister MacKenzie was invited to California by champion golfer Marion Hollins to help her create the course on this spit of land near Pebble Beach. (It was then that MacKenzie met Bobby Jones, with whom he would collaborate on the Augusta National). MacKenzie made maximum use of Cypress Point's setting, a dramatic strip of clifftop bordering the Pacific Ocean, where he located the first fourteen holes along the white sand dunes of Monterey and the sixteenth across the roiling surf, creating what is perhaps golf's most photographed hole.

My round of golf at Cypress might be one of the biggest disappointment in my golf life... I have been very excited to be invited there for two days prior to the round. On the first hole, I hit a beautiful wedge shot very close to the pin and when the ball pitched the green, there was a sudden explosion of sand...I realised right away that I would have to come back as the greens had been punched and sanded. Other than that..it is a spectacular course and the last few holes make you feel your are in paradise! Just outstanding!

One of the courses from my bucket list I had the chance to play a couple of years ago. Course were in perfect conditions and still is. Every golfer should try to play here once in a lifetime.

From the moment you drive past the small 'Cypress Point Club - Members Only' sign, you sense a very special ambience around the club. Dr Alister Mackenzie created a masterpiece on this spectacular piece of land on the Monterey Peninsula. Mackenzie's signature bunkering throughout the course is superb, the hazards seem to fit so naturally into the landscape. The highlight is the closing holes, with two brilliant consecutive par 3s at 15 and 16. the 16th in particular has a very demanding tee shot from around 240 yards over water with little margin for error. An unforgettable bucket list experience!
