course description

This century-old club may remain well hidden, and may have gone unnoticed by championship venues, but it is not without its unique charms. Situated in the far north of Leeds, there is a rural feel to Alwoodley that begins with the unimposing parking lot and clubhouse, from which the unbroken natural landscape extends in all directions. Though a vintage course, the flow and spaciousness of the layout lend an almost contemporary ambience to the play here. The 6657-yard length can prove a challenge in itself, even if the topography remains fairly flat. The strategy of the course does not reveal itself immediately, for which reason golfers will enjoy repeated visits. As expected given the location, birch and pine trees, together with the native heather, make for an enchanting backdrop; the challenges come, not from the flora, but in the form of bunkers that are carefully positioned and the ever-present rough.

Absolutely loved this course especially the routing. You lose all sense of where you are within the land and are focussed on the quality of each hole. Really lovely clubhouse and atmosphere too.
