Royal Waterloo Golf Club

(4 reviews)

Lasne, Belgium

course description

The Marache at the Royal Waterloo Golf Club has an intriguing design. From the raised clubhouse five holes are visible, the beginning and ending to the front nine and the final three coming back. Since its founding in 1923, the club has become one of Belgium's most prestigious. Fred Hawtree, famous for the Royal Birkdale, laid out the present site in 1960, and his son Martin in 2005 updated the course, bringing sweeping changes to the greens, the front of greens and the bunkers. In addition to the Marache, Waterloo has another 18-hole course and a further nine. Outstanding practice facilities help to improve the short game. Textured ground with copious trees separates each hole. Waterloo presents enough of a challenge that it has hosted the Challenge Tour, as well as the early Laurent Perrier Trophee tournaments, in which Seve Ballesteros and Nick Faldo battled at the top of their game.
