Quinta Do Lago - South Course

(6 reviews)

Almancil, Portugal

course description

In the 1970s when golfing first took off in the Algarve, Quinta do Lago was preceded only by older courses at Vilamoura, Vale de Lobo and Penina. It has three nine-hole loops, with B+C considered the best 18. Designed by William Mitchell in a hilly and treed terrain, the three loops served as incentive for widespread and ongoing property development. Quinta do Lago was venue to the Portuguese Open in 1976. It became the tournament’s home during the 1980s, with the last tournament played in 2001. It has an open American style, sufficiently long for professionals, but manageable for less expert golfers. The rolling landscape and Mediterranean-style villas built over the years contribute to its appeal. The course is usually very well maintained, but the clubhouse and surroundings are less so, reflecting the rustic style of early Algarve. But if you enjoy golfing and visit the area, it’s a must-do.
